Bands at a Glance

At the high school level, Canfield has five distinct bands.

Cardinal Pride Marching Band (2011-2012 Personnel)

As the musical pride of Canfield, the CPMB performs at all home and away games of the CHS Fighting Cardinals as well as at annual band nights including Austintown-Fitch, Boardman, and Canfield.  The CPMB also performs at civic events such as the Lighting of the Green and the City of Canfield’s annual Memorial Day and July 4th parades.

The band’s style is a mixture of military, show band, and pseudo drum corps.

Concert Band (2011-2012 Personnel)

The CHS Concert Band is an intermediate level instrumental ensemble performing music typically from Grade 2 1/2 to Grade 3 1/2.  THE CHSCB performs throughout the year including at the Holiday Concert, MIOSM Concert, OMEA District and State events, Spring Concert and various other events.  In May of 2011, the CHS Concert Band received its third straight Superior rating (second straight year of straight “I’s”) at the Ohio Music Education Association’s State Band Contest. 

Symphonic Band (2011-2012 Personnel)

The CHS Symphonic Band is an advanced instrumental ensemble performing music typically from Grade 4 to Grade 5 1/2 level.  Placement is by audition.  THE CHSSB performs throughout the year including at the Holiday Concert, MIOSM Concert, OMEA District and State events, Spring Concert and various other events.  The CHS Symphonic Band regularly earns Superior ratings at the Ohio Music Education Association’s State Band Contest including its their third straight in May of 2011.   

Jazz Band (2011-2012 Personnel)

2011-2012 marks the second year of the jazz band’s return at CHS.  Students who are members of the Symphonic Band may elect to take jazz band opposite sectionals and receive credit.   The CHS Jazz Band will perform at the Holiday Concert, MIOSM Concert, Spring Concert and various other events.

Cardinal Pride Pep Band

The Cardinal Pride Pep Band is a volunteer only ensemble that performs at various Winter Sport contests which normally includes Boys and Girls Varsity Basketball games and an occasional home Wrestling match.
